Toyota Europe’s COO Takis Athanasopoulos told Reuters that while the official target was still to sell 800,000 vehicles in Europe by 2005 he expected the company to reach this number next year.

“We feel we will be able to do this by 2004,” he said, adding that this would account for about 5% of the European car market, Reuters said.

According to Reuters, Athanasopoulos said in a press conference on the eve of the Geneva motor show that the company hoped to sell 790,000 cars this year and reiterated that it aimed to break even at an operating level in the fiscal year ending March 2003.
