Chevrolet sales in western and central Europe from January to September 2012 rose 2.3% year on year to 157,000 cars while the overall market was down 8%.

The brand’s European market share was up by 0.13 points at 1.34%, based on share gains in 19 European countries.

In western Europe Chevrolet sold 122,300 cars, an increase of 3.1%.

“In the current economic climate Chevrolet has seen record share and sales growth as European customers are more value-conscious than ever,” said Susan Docherty, president of Chevrolet Europe.

Chevrolet’s best-selling vehicle in Europe in the first nine months of 2012 was the Aveo city car, with sales of 45,650 units, followed by the Spark mini car of which 40,370 units were sold.

The US-built Camaro accounted for 1,800 sales.
