Dagens Industri reports that Volvo car company has applied for a permit from the Environmental Court (Miljödomstolen) to boost production at the Torslanda factory in Gothenburg, to 300,000 units per year.
Production at the plant has decreased from 185,000 in 2005 to 163,000 pieces in 2006, while the factory in Gent has seen the opposite trend, with production of 263,000 units in 2006.
Both bodywork and painting facilities in Gothenburg will have to be extended.
According to Steven Armstrong at Volvo, the Torslanda plant is to become one of the three most efficient in Europe. Volvo expects record sales of some 460,000 cars in 2007, as boosted by the new C30.
