New car sales fell 2.6% in Sweden in February, according to the automotive industry association BIL Sweden. Car sales totalled 18,568 units.

Truck sales, however, rose 17.3%, in February, bringing year-to-date growth to 20.3%. All segments over 3.5 tonnes experienced gains.

BIL Sweden said in a statement that the coming months should show more positive growth in the car market, but that it fully expects 2006 to be the strongest market ever for light and heavy trucks.

Swedish car sales have been on a strong upward trend in recent months thanks to low interest rates and strong economic growth.
