Registered sales of new cars in Sweden rose sharply in November compared with a year earlier, according to government and industry data cited by the Reuters news agency.

New car registrations rose 11.7% to 26,703 units, according to statistics bureau SCB, while industry association Bil Sweden’s figures showed a rise of 16.9% to 23,676 units, boosted by a larger number of working days, the report said.

“Despite the uncertainty created this autumn by already decided tax hikes, as well as continued talk about additional taxes on cars, we saw increased car sales in November,” Bil Sweden said, according to Reuters. “The increase is partly explained by an increased number of registration days in November.”

Reuters said both organisations reported registrations of new cars were virtually flat so far this year, Bil Sweden registering a drop of 0.6% and SCB an increase of 0.1% versus the corresponding period last year.
