National Electric Sweden (Nevs), has inked a spare components deal with Orio, formerly Saab Automobile Parts, as rumours swirl it has started pilot manufacture of its 9-3 electric vehicle.

Reports in Sweden indicate around 200 EVs are being produced in Nevs’ home town of Trollhättan near Gothenburg, for evaluation in Qingdao with series manufacture next year, although the Swedish company was not immediately available to confirm any details.

The global distribution agreement guarantees spare parts for Saab 9-3 cars manufactured by Nevs in Trollhättan can also be ordered from Orio.

For service and repairs as well as warranty measures, Nevs is advising customers to use its existing Saab Service Centres.

“Our new Saab customers can now be confident the long term supply of spare parts is ensured through established Saab service centres,” said Nevs director, sales and marketing, Jonas Hernqvist.

“Both Orio and Nevs are glad to forge closer ties between the two companies, as our agreement gives all Saab owners a high service level.”

Nevs started production of the Saab 9-3 Aero sedan with 220hp, two litre, turbocharged petrol engines last December.

Sales initially will be in China with a small number of vehicles being sold directly by Nevs to Swedish customers via a website.

Nevs acquired the main assets of the Saab Automobile bankruptcy estates in August, 2012.

The Swedish company is 78 % owned by National Modern Energy Holdings and 22 % by Qingdao Qingbo Investment.
