Truck and bus maker Volvo AB on Monday said it had received an order for another 499 buses for the Transantiago transport system in Santiago, Chile, which it will build next year.

The order is for 171 18.5-metre, 160-passenger B9 SLFA articulated buses and 328 12-metre, 90-passenger B7R LE models with nine-or seven-litre engines meeting Euro 3 exhaust emission requirements.


This is the second large order of Volvo buses for Transantiago in under two years. In January 2005, it received an order for 1,779.


Separately DaimlerChrysler’s EvoBus unit has won an order to supply 600 intercity buses to Moscow. It gave no financial details, according to a Reuters report.


The first deliveries of Mercedes-Benz Conecto H buses will be delivered later this year, DaimlerChrysler said in a statement cited by the news agency. The bulk of deliveries to public transport company Mostransavto will arrive in the first half of 2007.
