Nissan domestic production volume for fiscal 2016 is expected to top 1m units boosted by shipments of the Rogue SUV to North America.

Nissan will start producing the Rogue crossover (X-Trail in some markets) from spring 2016 at its production subsidiary in Kyushu, Japan, for export to North America.

Japanese output, at up to 100,000 units, will complement production in Smyrna, Tennessee, and Busan, South Korea.

Nissan's Fukuoka Prefecture facility will also build around 100,000 Qashqai SUVs a year starting in spring 2017, with the vehicles to be shipped to the US and Canada. The hugely successful Qashqai is currently produced in the UK and sells about 300,000 units a year, mainly in Europe.

The two steps will help push up Nissan's domestic output to around 1.1m.

Nissan is boosting domestic production to take advantage of currency differences and also optimise capacity utilisation as demand from the US market stays strong.
