Nissan is planning to shut down its light truck plant at Avila in Spain for up to 51 days over the next two years in response to weak European sales, newspaper El Pais reported at the weekend.
According to Reuters, the paper, citing a spokesman for the automaker, said Nissan has lodged paperwork necessary under Spanish law to stop the plant, which has 680 workers, for up to that period.
The plant has cut its forecast for production this year by 15% to 27,500 Cabstar and Atleon vehicles.
