Daimler’s Mercedes-Benz Vans units has started V-Class production Vitoria, Spain, after a EUR190m spend at the plant.
The plant’s body shop, paint shop, and assembly units were all modernised and reorganised and site logistics optimised.
The 600,000 sq m plant is the only automotive factory in the Basque region and employs about 3,100 people. It dates from the early 1950s and has built the Viano people carrier and the Vito van since 2003.
Vitoria vehicles are sold in Europe, Asia, Russia and Africa. Around 75,000 are made each year.
