General Motors and PSA Peugeot Citroën have revealed plans to build what they term “next generation small light commercial vehicles (B-LCV)” at the French firm’s Vigo plant in Spain.

The announcement is not a new agreement but rather the latest part of their ongoing alliance. The vehicles will replace the Citroën Berlingo, Peugeot Partner and Opel/Vauxhall Combo and are being developed “on PSA’s latest LCV architecture”.

GM and PSA note that each vehicle will have its own styling, and the first of the three will appear in 2018.

This latest development programme is the third of three joint projects, each of which was part of an agreement signed in December 2013. The others are a B-MPV (B-segment multi-purpose vehicle) for the GM plant in Zaragoza (Spain) and C-CUV (C-segment crossover utility vehicles) for the PSA plant in Sochaux (France).

Opel & Vauxhall’s existing Combo is built in Turkey by Fiat Industrial and Koc Holdings’ joint venture, while PSA’s Partner and Berlingo twins are made at Vigo. The Spanish plant also builds the Citroën C-Elysee/Peugeot 301 sedans as well as the Citroën C4 Picasso.
