Ford is doubling Spain`s ‘Prever’ car scrapping incentive during July to boost sales in Spain where its Focus line is a top seller.

A spokeswoman told just-auto the company is doubling the standard Prever trade-in reward of EUR720 to around EUR1,400 during the promotion, though it is for the Madrid region only.

All Ford models except the recently-launched S-Max crossover and the Focus ST sports hatchback are available, the spokeswoman said.

The Prever campaign “is just one more marketing initiative” for the market, the spokeswoman added. Ford pitched it in July because it is a typically strong month for car sales here in Spain.

The Prever programme has been a great success in Spain, helping boost car sales to record levels. The initiative encourages consumers to trade their old “coche” for a new or almost-new model.

Prever has prompted Spaniards to turn in roughly 500,000 cars a year at the country’s dealerships.

Ford’s sales “are going very well” this year and the company was Spain-s best-selling brand in June, the spokeswoman said.

In 2005, Ford sold 149,281 Focus models, she added.
