The Spanish News Digest reports that in the first nine months of 2004, diesel car sales in Spain increased 20.8% over the same period of last year. The report said that the rise in diesel car demand was mainly due to lower prices of diesel fuel compared to petrol.
Petrol car sales decreased by 2% in the same period.
The report added that 80% of four-wheel drive vehicles sold in Spain in September 2004 were equipped with diesel engines.
According to Spanish automotive trade body ANFAC, new car sales in Spain rose by 11.6% in the first nine months of 2004, to stand at 1.144 million units.
