The Spanish Prever car scrapping programme will continue through 2005 before it is reviewed in 2006, a spokeswoman for Spanish automobile, truck, bus and motorcycle importer association Aniacam told just auto.
Prever allows consumers to save €720 by trading their old car for a new or near-new model.
The incentive helped propel Spanish car sales 10% to a record 1.5 million units last year, industry observers have said.
According to Aniacam, Spaniards traded in 409,537 vehicles under the programme last year, up 26.6% from 2003.
Anicam expects the scheme to continue boosting sales this year although other factors including the prospect of higher interest rates could restrain purchases.
