Fiat’s Magneti Marelli affiliate has scheduled stoppages of up to 50 days at two of its plants in Catalonia, eastern Spain.

Citing a weekend El Pais report quoting trade union sources, Reuters said the affected plants manufacture components for vehicles produced by Nissan, Volkswagen and Ford, all of which have announced layoffs in recent weeks.

The news came after car manufacturers’ association ANFAC last week said Spanish car sales fell 40% year on year in October.
