South Korea’s vehicle exports rose 22% year on year in April despite negative currency factors, while the domestic market remained sluggish, the Korea Times reported.


The paper said sales in Korea in April fell 6.7% to 92,476 units year-on-year while exports rose to 346,425 units, up 22%.


The Korea Times said Hyundai Motor sold a total 438,901 units in April, 14.6% more than a year earlier on the back of strong demand in overseas markets – its rose 24.9%.


Kia Motors sold 115,008 units in April, up 19.2%, but sales dropped 3.9% compared to last month, the report added.


Renault Samsung Motors, the smallest of Korean carmakers, posted the highest growth in sales driven by robust demand for its new large and mid-size cars – its sales in April rose 49.2%, the Korea Times said.
