Hyundai plans to begin US production of the redesigned Santa Fe, which arrived in South Korean showrooms on Tuesday and in Europe later this year, at its Alabama plant in the first half of next year.
According to the Korea Herald, Hyundai invested 162.3 billion won over 26 months to develop the larger and more powerful Santa Fe with a new platform, transmission, in house-developed engine and improved safety features, hoping to establish it as a global model.
With over 1.1 million units sold worldwide, the Santa Fe has been the best-selling SUV in Korea since 2001.
The two-wheel drive version, which comes in three trims, is priced between 22.2 and 29.3 million won while the four-wheel drive is sold for between 24 and 31.16 million won, the paper added.
