Renault Samsung Motors wants to raise 2006 sales by about a quarter to 150,000 units by boosting exports eight times.

Unlisted Renault Samsung also said in a statement cited by Reuters that it planned to hire 1,000 new staff, a boost of about 17% over its current 5,800-strong labour force, to increase factory shifts and to strengthen research and development.

The news agency noted that the new goals came after Renault said earlier this month the group would launch eight luxury cars, including three new models developed with Renault Samsung, as it moves towards higher-margin segments.

Renault Samsung reportedly said the company aimed to raise its exports more than eight-fold to 30,000 this year from 3,610 in 2005.

Renault owns 80.1% of the South Korean car maker, which had a 12.6% of the car market in Asia’s fourth-largest economy last year, Reuters noted.
