While the domestic sales of most South Korean automakers slipped in July, an exception was Renault Samsung Motors Co., which recorded its highest monthly sales figures since the company’s launch in September 2000.
The Korea Herald reports that last month, Renault Samsung’s domestic sales jumped 30.6 percent from the previous month to come in at 13,656, about 500 units more than the previous monthly record of 13,170 units set in July 2003. In comparison to the same time last year, July’s figure is 41.6 percent higher.
The company attributed the sharp rise to the New SM3’s popularity. According to the company, 4,315 units, nearly a third of the firm’s July sales, were sold last month.
On the export front, although figures still remain lower than those recorded a year ago, Renault Samsung saw its exports rise 25.4 percent from June. Compared to the same month last year, Renault Samsung’s July exports were down by 15.1 percent.
