LG Electronics has filed a sales injunction request to ban sales of BMW and Audi cars in South Korea that are fitted with Osram’s products.

“We’ve decided to expand the legal case to automakers using LED package products made by Osram, as the infringement is increasingly affecting the fast-growing LED industry,” said a statement by LG.

According to LG, certain products in BMW and Audi that were sold in South Korea infringed seven of its patents in two areas – LED chips and packaging technologies.

The Seoul Central District Court has not yet announced the first hearing date for the case.

This case is separate from a July petition by LG to the South Korean trade commission to block imports of Osram’s LED products.

The news is the latest in a series of lawsuits involving Osram, Samsung and LG over LED patent infringement.
