Hyundai Motor affiliate Kia Motors, South Korea’s second largest automaker, has sold over a million units worldwide in the first half of a year, for the first time.
Kia said on Wednesday its H1 2010 global sales totalled 1,004,724 units, up 34.1% year on year and an 11.3% gain on H2 2009 when it sold 902,592 units.
A Kia source told the Maeil business newspaper the automaker would be able to achieve its target of selling 1.94m units for the full year.
By region, the largest first half sales growth was in Latin America where volume rose 100.6% to 61,721 units.
The US was Kia’s top market (170,069 units), followed by China (160,817), western Europe (135,755) and the Middle East (84,775).
