Kia Motors reportedly aims to export 80,000 cars including CKD kits to south east Asia next year, up 27% from this year.
Kia’s sales volume is expected to climb nearly 30% to about 63,000 cars compared to last year in the region where annual demand reached two million units, The Korea Herald said.
The carmaker’s share rose from 1% in 1999 to 3.7% this year in a market which is growing by 10% each year. It plans to increase the number of its sales agents from the current 300 to 350 next year in order to command 4.2% of the market, the paper said.
Kia also reportedly said it aims to increase its market share in the Philippines to 5% next year and to 10% by 2010 through aggressive marketing. With annual demand of only about 95,000 units, the country is known as a difficult market to penetrate for Korean automakers as it is dominated by Japanese rivals.
Kia’s sales in the Philippines this year is estimated to be around 2,500 cars, the Korea Herald added.
