Hyundai’s largest SUV yet has been announced in its home market. The Maxcruz is a new name for the US and Canada’s 2014 Santa Fe. A near-identical model has also just premiered at the Geneva motor show as the Grand Santa Fe.

In Korea, the Maxcruz replaces the Veracruz. It will be powered exclusively by a 200PS version of Hyundai-Kia‘s 2.2-litre R-Series e-VGT diesel. This four-cylinder engine is said to produce 436Nm of torque. The standard transmission is a six-speed automatic.

HMC quotes the new model’s dimensions as follows:

  • length: 4,915mm
  • width: 1,885mm
  • height: 1,690mm
  • wheelbase: 2,800mm
  • load space volume: 634 litres

The vehicle’s size is further illustrated by the fact that 19-inch wheels are a standard fit.

Hyundai said in April 2012 that it expected to sell around 152,000 units of the new Santa Fe series (Santa Fe Sport & Sante Fe/Grand Santa Fe/Maxcruz) globally in 2012: 42,000 in South Korea and 110,000 units in oversea markets. For 2013, the global sales goal is 385,000 units.

This SUV series is built at Hyundai’s Ulsan plant in South Korea, as well as by Kia Motors in West Point, Georgia (USA), and at the Beijing Hyundai JV’s new Shunyi plant 3 facility in Beijing.
