Hyundai Motor’s Ulsan plant has resumed normal operations today (Thursday, May 26) after an apparent resolution to an industrial relations dispute at a key supplier.

Output at the plant was severely disrupted this week due to labour strike at an engine supplier. According to the Ulsan plant, it could resume operations as Yoosung Enterprise Co., a piston ring supplier, had resumed normal operations, strike over.

The entire diesel engine plant had to stop operations on Tuesday in the aftermath of the strike at the supplier.

Earlier this week thousands of riot police have raided the Yoosung plant to end the illegal strike and disperse about 500 striking workers who had occupied the workplace by staging a sit-in protest since 18 May.

Yoosung makes about 70% of the piston rings used in Hyundai and Kia vehicles.
