Hyundai Motor sales rose to 245,876 in August compared with 196,452 a year previously.


Overseas sales were up to 199,035 from 158,519 and domestic sales were 46,841 versus 38,023.


Affiliate Kia Motors booked 97,080 sales last month versus 93,268 in August 2008. Overseas sales of 71,896 compared with 69,963 and domestic sales were up to 25,184 from 23,305.


Sales at GM Daewoo Automotive and Technology fell to 38,192 from 49,510 in 2008. Overseas sales of 31,075 compared with 42,927 in 2008 though domestic sales of 7,117 were up compared with 6,583 in August last year.


Renault Samsung booked total sales of 14,052, down from 19,255 last year. Overseas sales plunged to 3,326 from 9,884 but domestic sales rose to 10,726 from 9,371.
