GM Daewoo Auto & Technology Co. has said that it will begin shipments of its Lacetti/Nubira model to China in the second half of this year. GM Daewoo will also step up its production of the Lacetti at its affiliated plants in India and Thailand later this year.
“In partnership with Shanghai Auto International Corp. (SAIC), and Suzuki, GM Daewoo is seeking to launch full-scale exports of the Lacetti model in China,” said Bob Lutz, in remarks reported by the Korea Herald. Lutz is visiting GMDAT this week.
“GM Daewoo will export its Lacetti sedan to China on a knockdown basis via GM-Shanghai, a 50-50 joint venture between GM and SAIC,” he said. “Lacetti sedans will then be locally assembled and sold.”
The Korea Herald also said GM Daewoo is working on a plan to strengthen its strategic alliance with Suzuki to develop products jointly and step up technological exchange.
