The soaring price of diesel fuel in Korea is hitting vehicle demand amid rising concerns of it surpassing that of gasoline.
The Korea Times reports that despite new options from Hyundai Motor, sales of diesel vehicles on the domestic market declined in the first three months of this year.
A total of 4,709 diesel cars were sold, down 102 from a year earlier, according to the industry.
The newspaper said that Kia Motor’s steady compact seller, Pride, was typical. The proportion of Pride diesel model sales went down 3.1% to 24.2%.
“Diesel cars are obviously losing their appeal to consumers,” an official in the industry said.
Last month’s tax cut on oil products did nothing to hinder rising diesel fuel costs, the newspaper reported.
