Volkswagen has shut down production at its plant in South Africa for five days in response to a slowdown in demand.
Workers at the plant in Uitenhage have also been advised that the plant will shut down for three days in April.
Sales in South Africa were down 16% in February.
The Uitenhage plant produces cars for both domestic and export markets.
