Two men from Mozambique face a high court trial in South Adrica next month accused of killing a senior BMW manager while he tried to protect his disabled daughter, a local paper reported.
The two men aged 35 and 25 will face charges of murder, attempted murder, robbery with aggravating circumstances and the unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition when they appear in the court on 29 February, the Pretoria News said on its website.
According to the report, prosecutors alleged the two men attacked Manie Maritz and his 15-year-old daughter at their Constantia Park home in July last year. Maritz apparently was trying to protect his daughter as one of the men had her by the throat. He was shot in the chest and died on the veranda of his home.
A neighbour heard the father and daughter’s screams and fired a shot that caused the attackers to flee. He also managed to wound one of the suspects as the man climbed over the fence. One suspect left his shoes behind in his hurry to get away and, shortly afterwards, police found the two accused hiding nearby, the paper said.
One had been shot in the hip and the other was barefoot.
