PSA is in the process of increasing production of the 207 at its new Slovak plant, in Trnava, from 330 cars a day to 800 cars a day by the end of the year, according to VN-Newsletter.
This is equivalent to 160,000 cars a year, but the investment at the plant is for a capacity of 300,000 cars a year, or 1,500 cars a day.
The 207 is also produced at PSA’s Poissy plant in France where production is slowing – from around 1,155 units a day now to 945 cars a day by the end of the year.
Demand for the 207 is reportedly being slowed by continued demand for the 206, which is still being produced at PSA’s Poissy plant in France. The article questions the logic of this given that the 207 is probably cheaper to produce than the 206 because of its production location and lower labour costs.
PSA’s EUR700m plant in Trnava started operations this year. The plant layout is modelled on the Porto Real plant in Brazil, which features a star arrangement around a central administration building. A supplier park is being built adjacent to the plant on a 55-hectare site.
