Series production of Škoda’s new Kodiaq SUV model has started at the Czech automaker’s plant in Kvasiny.

The manufacturing facilities in Kvasiny have been modernised and expanded for  production, while in addition to newly-commissioned car body construction and conversion of the assembly line, the paint shop and logistics areas have also been enlarged.

Kvasiny is one of Škoda’s three production sites in the Czech Republic, with around 5,900 people currently employed there, making the plant one of the largest industrial employers in the Hradec Králové region.

During the next few years production capacity at the East Bohemian site will increase to 280,000 vehicles annually, with Škoda creating jobs for around 2,000 specialists and investing some CZK7.2bn (US£290m) into the expansion of the Kvasiny plant by 2018.

Besides the Kodiaq, the Škoda models, Superb and Yeti currently run off the production lines at the Kvasiny site, with around 142,000 vehicles produced last year.

Czech Republic car factory output almost reached 1m in the first three quarters of this year, according to a local lobby group.
