Daimler’s Mercedes-Benz Buses said it already had received 60 orders for the new, fully-electric eCitaro G articulated bus which will be the first in its category to offer solid state batteries as an option.
“Transport operators have been waiting for this city bus,” Daimler said.
“There are already definite orders for over 60 of the new eCitaro G from six towns and cities – and the number continues to grow.
“First deliveries to several transport operators are planned for this year.”
The standard eCitaro was launched two years ago, manufactured at the Mannheim plant and Daimler said “hundreds” were now in regular operation in many European towns and cities.
The eCitaro G, Mercedes’ first fully electric articulated bus, can transport up to 146 passengers.

By GlobalDataNMC lithium-ion batteries are currently used in the eCitaro solo bus and a new generation of those will be introduced this year, boosting capacity from 292 kWh to up to 396 kWh. The range of the articulated bus will be increased accordingly.
Optional solid state batteries have higher energy density and longer service life and use lithium-polymer with a solid electrolyte. Cobalt, nickel and manganese are not used.
With seven packs, the eCitaro G has battery capacity of 441 kWh.
From 2022 the eCitaro models will offer a fuel cell range extender, eliminating the need for intermediate charging and the infrastructure required in almost all cases.
