Renault has launched a new, small, SUV-style EV for China at the Shanghai show.
Group CEO Thierry Bollore affirmed a target of 550,000 vehicles sold in China per year by 2022 in line with the brand’s Drive the Future plan.
The A-segment K-ZE is a first part of the plan and finally takes the group into the world’s largest and fastest growing electric vehicle market.
It was shown as a concept at Paris last year and the production model is the sixth full electric vehicle in the global range.
Claimed to be the first joint-venture brand EV in the A segment designed in China for China, the K-ZE will be produced locally as part of the eGT New Energy Automotive joint venture between the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance and Dongfeng.
The model has 150mm ground clearance, a 2,423mm wheelbase and 300 litres of boot space, claimed leading in its segment.

By GlobalDataMultiple charging modes make it compatible with both 220V domestic plugs and public infrastructures. In fast charge, it takes 50 minutes to charge from 0% to 80%. On slow charge, it takes four hours to charge to 100%, “totally adequate for fast-paced urban life”, said Renault.
The intelligent interactive system with eight-inch multi-functional colour LCD touch screen is said to be “segment leading” and app remote control is possible. Users, presumably provided they have the right data packages and subscriptions, “have easy access to features such as on-line entertainment, 4G WiFi and smart voice recognition”.
The car also has PM2.5 sensors and an air quality control system which enables evaluation of cabin air quality and automatic switching between interior and exterior air circulation.
