Serbian government officials say Fiat has confirmed it will add some 1,433 workers to the existing 1,000 as it looks to begin five and seven door vehicle production.
Fiat Automobili Srbija will benefit from around a EUR944m (US$1.32bn) spend by its parent company at the Zastava plant at Kragujevac, 140km south east of Belgrade.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Regional Development Mladjan Dinkic, visited Fiat’s design centre in Turin yesterday (10 October) where he was presented with a new model of the five and seven-door car.
Dinkic said Fiat’s leadership had confirmed Fiat Automobili Srbija will employ the extra 1,433 workers.
The Deputy Prime Minister added the Italians have already started signing agreements with suppliers of equipment to be installed in Kragujevac factory production halls during the course of next year.
Previous Serbian statements indicated Fiat would produce new versions of the Fiat Idea and Lancia Musa. The site is Fiat’s only current factory in Serbia.
