Scania has entered a contract with H2 Green Steel to obtain environmentally friendly steel for its trucks.

Production of the green steel will take place at a facility in Boden, northern Sweden, starting in 2025, with deliveries expected to commence in 2027.

Approximately four tonnes of steel are used to manufacture a truck and the supplier claims that, through replacing coal with green hydrogen in steel production, CO2 emissions can be reduced by up to 95%.

Fossil-free electricity, water and heat become the primary emissions.

Scania aims to phase out the main CO2 emitting sources in its supply chain by 2030.

This involves targets of using 100% green steel, 100% green batteries, 100% green aluminium and 100% green cast iron in the manufacturing process.
