Volkswagen’s car sales in Russia doubled to 78,917 units in January–September from about 39,458 units in the same period last year, the company said in a statement.

Last month VW’s car sales in the country amounted to 11,987 units, up 96% year on year. Most popular models in January–September were the Polo, Tiguan, and Golf.

According to the Association of European Businesses (AEB), VW’s new car sales in Russia were 58,989 units in 2010 against 39,488 units in 2009.
