Volkswagen has suspended operations at its car plant in the Russian city of Kaluga for two weeks but only so staff can take annual holidays, a spokesman Prime-Tass on Monday.

The plant produces Golf, Jetta, Tiguan and Passat cars, as well as Skoda Octavia and Octavia Tour models, and began output in November 2007.

It assembled over 60,000 cars in 2008.
