Volkswagen is designing a new vehicle especially for Russia, according to the automaker and local media reports.
“The car will be produced at the new assembly line in Kaluga (about 200km south-west of Moscow), and the first car will be ready in June [this] year,” a source said.
VW group design head Walter de’Silva showed a sketch of the new sedan last week, demonstrating it would match the style of the new Golf and Polo models.
“The starting price will be about EUR10,000,” VW was quoted as saying.
Volkswagen-Russia CEO Frank Wittermann told Itar -Tass “the company considered both the needs of Russian drivers and Russia’s climate and road features.”
“The new car will fully comply with Volkswagen’s international quality standards and at the same time its price will be very attractive,” he added.
