Russian vehicle production soared 91.9% year on year to 44,257 units in January according to industry monitor ASM Holding.
The jump was attributed to a significant increase in the country’s car output, which more than doubled to 41,806 units from 18,177 units in January 2009, Prime-Tass noted.
Of that total, foreign brand car output in Russia rose 46.9% to 26,340 units while domestic car output rose to 15,466 units from just 280 a year ago.
Heavy truck output fell 47.4% to 2,174 including 266 foreign-branded trucks, down 22.2%. Bus output was down 60.4% to 285 including 153 foreign-brand vehicles, down 21.1%.
Russia’s vehicle output in 2009 fell 59.7% to 722,102 units.
