Russia’s auto output rose 58% year-on-year to 114,680 units in the first two months according to ASM Holding.

The growth came as manufacturers geared up for a Russian government sponsored ‘cash for clunkers’ scheme. Analysts note that the comparison is against a very weak period early last year when manufacturers in Russia slashed output to wind down stocks.

Car output was up 65% to 101,557 units in the period. The output of domestic-branded cars increased 66% on the year to 41,393 cars in the period, while the output of foreign-branded cars increased 64.3% to 60,164 cars.

Truck output increased 27.7% on the year to 10,850 units and bus output fell 7.4% to 2,303 vehicles.

Of the total, AvtoVAZ’ output went up 74.5% on the year to 40,185 cars.

Russia’s vehicle output in 2009 fell 59.7% to 722,102 units.
