In early 2005 the Russian government ruled to eliminate or substantially reduce import duties on auto components for “industrial assembly” facilities that have an annual output of at least 25,000 vehicles.


Last June Toyota started building a 4bn ruble assembly plant in St. Petersburg and plans to complete construction in late 2007.


Annual production capacity of the plant is projected at 50,000 cars.
