Russia’s Taganrog Automobile Plant, or TagAZ, is expected to start producing Hyundai Santa Fe SUVs early next year, according to the Prime-Tass news agency.

The report cited as source a representative of the Avtomir group of companies – one of Hyundai’s Russian distributors.


Production will most likely start in March, Avtomir’s representative said.


TagAZ’s Moscow office confirmed this information.


Established in 1997 in the Rostov Region, TagAZ has produced Hyundai Accent sedans under a license from Hyundai Motors since May 2001 and Hyundai Sonata business-class sedans since April 2004. In June 2005, the company launched assembly of the Hyundai Porter light truck.


The plant is capable of making six models simultaneously and producing 120,000 units each year, the report added.
