The car output of Russia’s Taganrog Automobile Plant, or TagAZ, almost doubled to 24,569 units in January-March from around 12,542 units in the same period of 2007.


The truck output of the plant rose 19.3% on the year to 2,299 units in January-March, the service said.


In March, the plant produced 7,600 cars, up 45.8% on the year and down 17.6% on the month. Truck output in March amounted to 247 units, down 68.4% on the year and 77.7% on the month.


In 2007, TagAZ produced 71,050 cars, up 46.8% on the year, and 10,389 trucks, up 45.1% on the year.


TagAZ plans to sell over 120,000 Hyundai cars this year, up from the 79,620 sold in 2007.

Vehicles assembled at TagAZ accounted for 54% of all Hyundai vehicles sold in Russia in 2007.


TagAZ has also just announced that it has started test assembly of fourth generation Hyundai Elantra XD sedans.


The first commercial batch of these vehicles is expected to be assembled and supplied to dealers by the end of May.
