Suppliers are starting to invest in St. Petersburg to supply Toyota’s plant currently under construction there, according to Nihon Keizai Shimbun. Production is due to start in 2007.

Toyota Tsusho will supply and install production equipment, and remain in the locality to maintain the equipment and be responsible for industrial waste disposal.

Toyota Boshoku will assemble seats. Initially it will use space in the Toyota plant, but if Toyota needs the space it will build a new plant nearby.

Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha Ltd. and Mitsui & Co are also establishing offices.

Toyota’s plant will produce around 20,000 cars initially, rising to around 50,000 cars in fiscal 2009.
