“We are extremely pleased Bor Glass Work and DSK have taken the rigorous steps necessary to become Q1 suppliers,” said Ford of Europe president and CEO John Fleming.

“Meeting Q1 criteria is important to both Ford and our suppliers because it means customers will receive vehicles built to consistent, high quality standards. This is crucial to our plans for meeting the demands of Russia’s fast-growing automobile market.”

The Q1 announcement came as Ford gathered more than 35 of its key suppliers for a 5-6 October meeting to discuss ways to increase the number of materials, parts and components that can be sourced from Russia.

In August, Ford signed a new agreement with the Russian government that treats vehicles produced at Ford’s St. Petersburg assembly plant as being manufactured locally. Ford intends to increase its use of local suppliers, continuing the process it started in 2001.

Suppliers must meet several stringent criteria to obtain the globally recognised Q1 certification, including International Organization of Standardisation (ISO) certifi-cation; proper implementation of quality operating and management systems, as well as environmental management systems; and customer endorsements.

Bor Glass Work and DSK both supply parts for the Focus built in St. Petersburg. Bor Glass Work, based in Nizhny Novgorod, produces flat glass for side windows and windscreens. DSK, located in Samara, makes carpets and other trim parts.
