Skoda Auto sales in Russia more than doubled in the January-September period to 19,444 cars from 9,472 in 2006, the company said on Wednesday.


The most popular Skoda models in Russia in the period were the [previous generation] Octavia Tour and the latest Octavia, with 11,151 and 2,940 cars sold, respectively, the company told Prime-Tass in a statement.


Skoda also sells its Fabia, Superb, Roomster and Praktik models in Russia.


Skoda’s 2006 sales in Russia rose 97%.


Earlier this week, the Czech automaker said global sales rose 12.6% year on year to 462,429 vehicles in the first three quarters of 2007.

This was the best third-quarter result in the automaker’s history while September sales of 56,384 vehicles broke another record for the month.


The Octavia was the best-selling model at the end of this quarter (169,582 vehicles in total), up 12.3% and, with nearly 54,000 vehicles sold, the Octavia Tour remains popular.
