The government of Saint Petersburg is currently in talks with four foreign car makers over opening assembly plants in the region, Vladimir Blank, chairman of the economic development committee in the St. Petersburg government told an industry conference, the Prime-Tass news agency reported.


He did not name the companies.


Ford has an assembly plant in Vsevolzhsk in the Leningrad Region that assembles Ford Focus models from kits supplied from western Europe.


Scania produces city buses in Saint Petersburg where Toyota is currently building a car assembly plant.


On 28 February, Saint Petersburg governor Valentina Matviyenko confirmed that Nissan Motor was still in talks on building an assembly plant in Russia. Nissan is considering several regions, including the vicinities of Saint Petersburg, as possible locations of the plant, Matviyenko said then, Prime-Tass noted.
