Avtoframos, Renault’s Moscow-based Russian subsidiary, has reached its projected annual production capacity of 160,000 cars, its press office told RIA Novosti.
Avtoframos announced plans to double production capacity in March 2010 and started expansion without suspending existing assembly operations. It spent over EUR150m doubling capacity, according to new agency Prime.
Avtoframos started operating three shifts ahead of schedule at the end of 2010.
It is preparing to start assembline the [Dacia-designed] Duster sport utility vehicle (SUV).
Avtoframos was established in 1998 on a parity basis by Renault and the Moscow city government. At present, Renault owns 94.1% with the remaining stake held by the city.
