Renault plans to start producing Renault Sandero hatchbacks at its Moscow-based Avtoframos plant at the end of 2009, the company has said.

The Logan-based Sandero is currently made and sold in Brazil.

Currently, the company produces Renault Logan sedans at the plant. Renault plans to double the annual production capacity of the plant to 160,000 cars in 2009 from 80,000 units currently.

Renault has been producing Renault Logan cars in Russia since the middle of 2005. Its sales have exceeded 150,000 units since that time. The company will continue producing Renault Logan cars after it launches the production of Renault Sandero hatchbacks.

Avtoframos is a joint venture between the Moscow city government and Renault.

The future of the Avtoframos operation has been called into some question following Renault’s closer strategic tie-up with AvtoVAZ.
