Production of the Citroën C-Crosser, Peugeot 4007 and Mitsubishi Outlander SUVs has started at the PSA Peugeot Citroën (PSA) and Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (MMC) joint venture plant PCMA Rus in Kaluga, 180km southwest of Moscow.
The plant started assembling C-segment vehicles – the Peugeot 308 in April and Citroen C4 in July.
The plant has already built 11,000 vehicles since official opening in April.
“As a result of a EUR470m investment, this factory has been able to implement production and quality processes equivalent to those in operations in any of the PSA and MMC factories, and the plant will be fully operational in 2012,” the automakers said.
“With 400 staff currently, the Kaluga factory has become a key contributor to the local economy and is another demonstration of the successful policy led by the governor of Kaluga Region to develop an industrial cluster southwest of Moscow.
“With local production… both PSA and MMC will be able to respond quickly to the needs of Russian customers, thereby increasing their market presence.”
